The Kentucky Home Energy Rebates Program is awaiting unconditional approval from the US Department of Energy (DOE). While waiting on DOE approval, we are actively preparing to deliver the program in a way that will allow a quick launch.

When launched, the Kentucky Home Energy Rebates program will support hardworking Kentucky families statewide, making it more affordable for them to install energy-saving solutions like heat pumps, appliances, electric panels, and insulation. Regardless of whether the home is new or old, rented or owned, or an apartment building or stand-alone house, the energy-saving solutions have the potential to reduce the amount Kentuckians spend to heat or cool their homes. The Kentucky Home Energy Rebates program aims to make a Better Kentucky one home at a time.

Contractors are required to provide the following: Kentucky Business Registration, Air Sealing and Insulation Contractors (local jurisdiction General Contractor requirements) + EPA Lead-Safe Certification, state license for (Plumbing, Electrician, HVAC) filed with the Department of Housing, Building and Construction, and Proof of Insurance (General Liability, Commercial Automobile, Worker’s Compensation, & Unemployment)

Below is a list of Approved Incentives for Contractors:

  • Substantial installation (excludes installations of electric stoves and electric heat pump dryers) per dwelling unit: $200
  • Installation of one or more electric heat pumps for space heating and cooling per dwelling unit- ducted: $100
  • Installation of one or more electric heat pumps for space heating and cooling per dwelling unit- non-ducted: $50
  • Installation of one or more electric load service center: $50
  • Installation of insulation per dwelling unit: $50
  • Installation of air sealing and materials to improve ventilation per dwelling unit: $50
  • Total incentive per dwelling unit: $500

What technical skills are needed to become an approved program contractor? 

The Kentucky Home Energy Rebates Program starts with a qualified Energy Assessment which leads to whole home energy retrofits. View each Contractor type below to determine the skills needed to participate as an approved program contractor.

Certified Energy Assessors, HVAC & Ventilation Installers, Insulation & Air Sealing Installers, Electricians and Plumbers contractors must provide a Kentucky Business Registration to perform work in the state of Kentucky. Contractors are also responsible for providing all materials and equipment necessary to complete their work.
